Wow I could easily write a 3 page post on this!
I will try to keep it short.

I see the arguments of both sides as being very valid.
National standards of what constitutes an identification (by whatever forensic means) sounds on the surface to be a very logical idea and hard to dismiss out of hand.

The thing to me is........whether there are rigid standards or not we still will end up relying on the qualified pros in doing their job........are they honest and sincere in what they do?
I think all these types of evidence are useful (handwriting too) if the person doing the analyzing is both competent and understands what weight lays upon them.

The others who need to be doing their jobs are the judges and even more so the jurys........so many of these ppl are wrongfully convicted because ppl on the jury are just not taking their jobs seriously enough.......if we could always count on the judge and the jury to do their job.......right and impartial that would make national standards unneeded IMHO.

And as for the last paragraph of the story.

"Some Democrats suggested that the flaws identified by the forensic science report necessitate a moratorium on the death penalty, but that suggestion had little support from conservatives in the room"

We need to quit killing ppl....period!!!!!....this includes old sick ppl.....convicted killers.......and unborn babies as well.
We are just inherently unqualified to make those decisions.

Does anybody but me find it strange that both sides Dems and Repubs think it is ok to kill they just argue about who is eligible.

Yes, I buy that! Jon55, I actually find myself on both sides of the debate because I believe there should be standards and points of reference for all to guide themselves upon. But, sometimes standards would prohibit an identification if there was a set number or limit that had to be met.

No doubt, the evidence should suggest in all forensics beyond a shadow of a doubt in my mind. Doesn't matter if the charges are criminal or civil, it all has a huge impact on someone's life! :) IMPrO

I concur

The question in my mind always is.......how many of the guilty do we let go trying to not convict that one innocent?

The easy answer is as many as it takes.

But we do not apply that anywhere else.

How many innocents do we foist the death penalty on to win wars?

How many do we sacrafice for ease of transportation......car wrecks, plane crashes, etc.

Oh crap the PTEA is gonna fine me for sure.

Could you explain how your views on abortion are relevant to the Zodiac Killer case, please? Thank you.

Do you see what I see? Because I see (JTBDZ)C squared! Charles told me today that JT would be proud that I formed a mathematical equation in his honor! LOL

I wouldn't say premature! Maybe over anxious!

First, if Jack was 17 at the time of the Suzanne Degnan murder it is unlikey(not impossible) that he was her killer. She was murdered in 1945 and was dismembered. The Chicago police believed 17 year old William Heirens to be the murderer, but he only confessed under coercion. So this leaves a possible murderer on the losse, then 2 years later Short was murdered and left on Degnan Blvd. This is to eerie to be coincidental. The dissection of both bodies resembled paintings owned by Hodel which seems to point in his direction. Now the MO and the signature of the killer is different in both circumstances than Zodiac.

1. MO- Zodiac liked to kill in public like to dare the police come and catch me then sent letters. BD/Lipstick Killing was type of kidnapping and then time spent with te victim...then the murder.

2. Signature- Zodiac was extremely violent in his killings, but his killings were for fun..to fuel his ego...BD/Lipstick were mutilations to fuel something more disturbing..some sort of sadistic sexual or artistic thrill thatthe killer needed to express.

Nanette since your are doing handwriting analysis on this now..check out the writings scribbled in Lipstick on the walls of the victims walls in Chicago in the Lipstick Killings(1945)

Do you have specifics on this case? Like when in 45 was she killed? And, when did WWII end specifically in 1945? JT just got into the military in July 1945 then WWII ended and he was sent home leaving a Japanese bride behind...

I am trying to find any writing on this case, so if anyone comes up with a link let me know please??? :)

there were actually 2 older women killed before te young girl...they were both killed in 1945..I believe that began in June. The Japanese I believe surrendered in August of 1945. The young girl was killed in 1946. The 2 older women were both drained and cleaned of blood just like the Black Dahlia and like BD the young girl was dismembered...here is one link that describes the case....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Heirens
